Local writer and editor Annie Tobey has a new book out, 100 Things to Do in Richmond Before You Die – and Henrico history sites, restaurants and recreational venues figure prominently within its pages.

A native of Richmond, Tobey is the editor of Boomer Magazine and a beer columnist, so it's not surprising that local breweries and taphouses (including Strangeways, Intermission, The Answer Brewpub, Crafted and Sedona in Henrico) are highlighted. But the book also covers culinary favorites (Ukrop's Market, Kuba Kuba Dos), entertainment (Funny Bone and The Tin Pan), and shopping (Crossroads Art Center, Book People, and Chadwick & Sons Orchids).

Dorey Park gets double mention as a disc golf park and Virginia Capital Trail trailhead, and Rocketts Landing is highlighted as the scene of the annual Dragon Boat Festival, as well as for its role in Black history.

And Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden – a regular on top-10 lists of botanical gardens in the U.S. – is heaped with praise for its Butterflies Live, GardenFest of Lights, A Million Blooms, and more.

Tobey will discuss her book at several October events in Henrico, including an Oct. 1 appearance (4 to 6 p.m.) at Intermission Beer Co. on Brook Road, an October 12 book signing (5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) at Mekong Restaurant on West Broad Street, and an Oct. 14 presentation and book signing (2 p.m. to 5 p.m.) at Book People on Ridgefield Parkway.
