Table of Contents

Eliseo A. Bautista, a general surgeon/robotic surgeon/bariatric surgeon at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital, recently performed his 1,000th robotic procedure using the daVinci Xi Surgical Robotic System at the hospital.

Bautista, a member of the Bon Secours Richmond Surgical Group since 2009, received training on the daVinci robot in 2007 and then proceeded to develop a protocol for bariatric surgery, including gastric bypass, gastric banding and gastric sleeves, as well as a number of general surgery procedures, such as gallbladder surgery, esophageal hernias and other forms of hernia. He now trains surgeons from other hospital systems on how to operate the daVinci robot and is considered a pioneer in daVinci robotic surgery in the field of bariatrics.
