A body pulled from the James River Monday morning is believed to be that of 28-year-old Sarah Erway, the second woman who was reported missing after a group of people went over Bosher’s Dam on Memorial Day during a group outing on the river.

Richmond Emergency Communications received a call from a citizen shortly before 7:50 a.m. who reported seeing a body in the middle of the river, 200 yards downstream from the Huguenot Bridge. Richmond Fire responded and recovered it.

In a press release Monday afternoon, Henrico Police officials wrote that the discovery “concludes a week-long multi-agency search for two missing persons,” though they did not specifically confirm that the body recovered Monday was in fact Erway’s but said that the Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office would work to confirm the identity and cause of death.

Erway was part of a group of 12 people traveling on the river Memorial Day. She and 23-year-old Lauren Winstead of Henrico disappeared after the group went over the dam. Winstead’s body was discovered several days later about five miles downstream.

The search for the two women involved 17 different public safety agencies from local, state and federal governments.
