Black Village of RVA to mark Earth Day with recovery home donations

The Black Village of RVA, a community-based organization soon to become a non-profit, will present donations April 22 to support A Few Good Roots Inc. at AFGR's new recovery home at 5 North Battery Street in Highland Springs.

Earlier this month, BVRVA hosted a pop-up event at Diversity Richmond, featuring local and out-of-state small black-owned businesses promoting and selling their products to the community.   To support AFGR's recovery home, A Hallowed Place, BVRVA collected hygiene items, planting and gardening items for landscaping the home, and monetary donations to ensure support for incoming residents.

BVRVA was founded by Darrick Harris-Hanks, founder and CEO of Its Mr. Baker LLC, who had a vision in 2020 to not just continue selling baked goods, but to eventually own land to help build the black community and support the circulation of money within. The goal of the BVRVA is to bring the community and its small black-owned businesses together to help provide equitable resources for further connection and growth through events and projects.
