Babe Ruth League, Inc. today canceled all of its regional and World Series events, including the 14-year-old World Series that was scheduled to be hosted by the Glen Allen Youth Athletic Association at RF&P Park later this summer.

But the organization announced that its 2022 13-year-old World Series would return to RF&P, which has previously hosted four other World Series events, as well as five Southeast Regional tournaments, five state tournaments and dozens of district tournaments.

“These are unprecedented times,” said Steven Tellefsen, president and CEO of Babe Ruth League, Inc. “And while it is upsetting to think of all our participants who will be disappointed by this announcement, Babe Ruth League’s highest priority remains the health, well-being and safety of our participants, families, volunteers, and fans. It is our hope that our players will be allowed to return to their community playing fields and play as much baseball and softball as they can for the remainder or the 2020 year.”

Babe Ruth League Vice President Robert Faherty praised Glen Allen’s involvement with regional and national tournaments.

“Glen Allen has been a quality, long-standing host location for Babe Ruth League,” he said. “We look forward to returning to their great community in 2022 with the 13-Year-Old World Series, as well as providing them with the opportunity to host other future World Series and high-level Babe Ruth tournaments.

“Knowing the people of Glen Allen and their sincere dedication to the Babe Ruth League program, we are confident in their commitment to provide the perfect setting for the managers, coaches, players, as well as their families and fans, to enjoy another big-league experience in 2022 and beyond.”
