U.S Representative Rob Wittman (R-VA-First District) stressed the importance of early voting at a Chesterfield County Republican rally headlined by RNC co-chair Lara Trump and Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin on Saturday.
The rally gathered hundreds of people from all over the state at a barn at Keystone Acres. Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears and Senate candidate Hung Cao also spoke.
“The First District deserves Rob Wittman to lead them again,” Cao said.
Wittman was elected to Congress in 2007 and currently serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Natural Resources Committee. After the 2020 Census, his district’s boundaries shifted to include the western half of Henrico County several years ago. He is facing Democrat Leslie Mehta in a race to retain his seat.
Wittman attributed fentanyl and violence issues in the nation to border issues that he said did not exist when Donald Trump was president.
“This is as clear of a choice that we have ever seen in the history of this nation,” he said. “What sovereign nation does not have a secure border?
“The direction this nation is under with the Biden and Harris administration is the wrong direction for this nation. That’s really what this is all about.”
Midlothian resident Sandy Foglesong said that she believes Wittman is concerned all about the Virginian people, rather just using tax dollars to “have programs and policies nobody wants.”
According to Wittman, about 165,000 people had voted early in the First District to date. He told the crowd that the best way to know if their friends and family have voted is to hold them accountable. He emphasized the importance of helping others vote by reminding them through phone calls or offering to drive them to the polls.
“This is really an all hands on deck moment for this nation,” Wittman said.
