Applications are now being accepted for the Henrico County Public Schools' Early Learning Preschool program for the 2025-26 school year.
Early Learning Preschool is offered at 22 of HCPS’s elementary schools. The pre-K classes are full-day programs that follow the HCPS school calendar and school hours.
There is no cost to families for the program, and transportation will be provided for preschool students in accordance with HCPS transportation guidelines. Applications will be accepted until Aug. 5, and families who wish to apply after that date will be considered for the waitlist.
The program teaches students literacy and other skills through a curriculum that includes a focus on phonemic awareness, language enrichment, social and emotional development and other foundational abilities. The program also introduces the core values of the Henrico Learner Profile, focusing on creative and critical thinking, communicating, collaborating, quality character and becoming an engaged, global citizen.
To be eligible, children must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 30 and live in Henrico County. Eligible students who live within the attendance zone of a school within an HCPS preschool classroom are considered first, but invitations for enrollment are not granted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Families must also meet additional income and eligibility requirements to apply for the Early Learning Preschool program, which is funded through the Virginia Preschool Initiative.
