Anthem HealthKeepers Plus and Radio One Richmond will host their annual “Prep for Success” back-to-school supply giveaway Saturday, Aug. 29.

This year’s giveaway will be a drive-thru style event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or until supplies last) in the Anthem Parking Lot at 2015 Staples Mill Road in Henrico.

“We typically have a huge event to get area students prepared to go back to school,” said Jasmine Snead, marketing director Radio One Richmond, “but COVID-19 will not allow that style of event; therefore, we came up with this drive-thru distribution to prioritize safety and continue our commitment to send students off into the year prepared.”

Radio One Richmond will provide 500 bags of school supplies for school-aged kids. There also will be community organizations on site giving away toiletries and food.

This is a first-come, first-served, 1contactless event, and masks are mandatory for all who enter the drive-through distribution line.

During the past decade, Radio One Richmond and its partners have given away nearly 10,000 backpacks to local youngsters.

“At Anthem, we understand the vital role that education plays in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and we want to ensure that local students have the materials they need to start the school year off right,” said Jennie Reynolds, president of Anthem HealthKeepers Plus. “As families continue to deal with the uncertainties brought on by the pandemic, Anthem remains committed to supporting our communities and we’re proud to be partnering with Radio One Richmond on this initiative to help Virginians during these unsettling times.”
