Another passenger tries to bring loaded gun through RIC checkpoint

Table of Contents

Three days after Richmond International Airport wrapped up one of its slowest passenger years but its busiest one for stopping guns at checkpoints – 22 instances – another passenger tried to bring a gun onto a plane.

The Richmond woman was stopped at a security checkpoint at the airport Jan. 3 with a loaded .38-caliber handgun in her carry-on bag. The gun contained five bullets.

TSA alerted airport police, who responded to the checkpoint, confiscated the handgun and arrested the woman.

A typical first offense for carrying a loaded handgun into a checkpoint is $4,100 but can go as high as $13,669 depending upon the circumstances.
