On Dec. 19, a team of Amazon employees celebrated the holiday season by delivering a truckload of goods to Virginia Home for Boys and Girls and donating $25,000 as well.

The truck contained thousands of essential items from household goods and toiletries to games, art supplies, and clothes. Amazon’s monetary donation will help improve VHBG’s campus, with such amenities as traffic calming measures, security cameras at sensitive areas around campus, and better outdoor lighting of campus roads, homes, and common areas.

Amazon employees also established a giving tree through which they collected specific gifts for each client in VHBG’s Transitional Living programs.

“At Amazon we are customer-obsessed," said Amazon Chester Fulfillment Center Senior Operations Manager Andrea Wilson. "We think big, and we stand alongside our customers to help solve big issues. This includes supporting organizations that make a difference, like the Virginia Home for Boys and Girls. We believe it’s meaningful and impactful to give back locally, and we’ll continue to look for ways to be good neighbors.”

For the past five years, Amazon has supported VHBG’s mission to provide a safe, affirming, stable, short-term place to live for young people transitioning to a new, permanent home. Often young people leave unsafe environments and come to VHBG with nothing but the clothes on their backs.  Amazon’s in-kind donation will aid in the healing experience at VHBG, bringing dignity to the young people who are served by offering them clothes, toiletries, and entertainment items.
