Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay celebrates Fareva's environmental stewardship

Table of Contents

The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay recently recognized Fareva Richmond, Inc., located on Darbytown Road in eastern Henrico, as a Businesses for the Bay Gold Member.

The Fareva Richmond site has implemented outdoor programs such as maintaining and monitoring six songbird nest boxes, installing a new bee nesting block, and reducing stormwater runoff. Last year, Fareva gave away 250 sunflower seed packets, and Fareva volunteers planted two sunflower gardens and one wildflower garden, providing food for native bird species and promoting the increase of pollinators. During their lunch breaks, employees enjoy a walking trail on the property, which Fareva lined with hand-painted educational signage to help raise awareness of native plants. Fareva also installed six new picnic tables around the facility to encourage fresh air dining.

To address sustainability inside the buildings, an inter-departmental Energy Council meets to discuss the facility’s utility usage/costs/ emissions, develop ways to conserve energy and water and implement the site's Zero Waste initiative. In addition to environmental stewardship programs being conducted at the facility, Fareva has adopted two miles of Darbytown Road as part of Keep Henrico Beautiful (KHB)’s litter removal initiative. Fareva safety committees and volunteer crews participate in four trash clean-ups annually.
