Adventure Series seeks outdoor enthusiasts

The Virginia State Parks Adventure Series, presented by Dominion Energy, kicks off its sixth year in action Feb. 18. This year, the series consists of 25 competitions (including four new races) appealing to paddlers, runners, bikers, hikers and runners, who will compete for prizes while visiting various state park locations.

Among the prizes participants can win are Virginia State Parks gift certificates and passes. Participants who compete in any four Adventure Series races will win a Virginia State Parks annual pass and be entered into a drawing for a $150 Virginia State Parks gift certificate. Anyone competing in six Adventure Series races will win a $100 Virginia State Park gift certificate and annual pass.

The list of 25 races includes a Feb. 18-19 Monster Cross and a March 18-19 Tour de Pocahontas, both at Pocahontas State Park. On March 25, the Dogwood Ultra Marathon will be held at Twin Lakes State Park.

Among other state parks hosting competitions are York River State Park, Douthat State Park, Smith Mountain Lake State Park, New River Trail State Park and more.  The series will conclude with the Oct. 7 High Bridge 5k and half-marathon at High Bridge Trail State Park.
