AARP is now accepting nominations for the 2023 Virginia Andrus Award for Community Service, which recognizes Virginians 50 and above who have dedicated their time, skills, and expertise to enhance the lives of people in their communities.

The award is named after AARP's founder, Ethel Percy Andrus.

A selection committee will evaluate nominations based upon the nominees' contributions to the community, alignment with AARP's vision and mission, and ability to inspire other volunteers. The recipient of the Virginia Andrus Award for Community Service will be announced in the fall.

To be eligible for the award, nominees must be 50 years or older and have performed their achievements, accomplishments, or service on a voluntary basis, without remuneration. While volunteers receiving small stipends to cover associated costs remain eligible, partisan political achievements or service will not be considered. Couples or partners who engage in service together are eligible, but teams are not.

Previous recipients of the Andrus Award, volunteers serving on the selection committee, and AARP staff members are not eligible for nomination. The award is not given posthumously, either.

Nominations for the Virginia Andrus Award for Community Service can be submitted online, and the deadline for applications is July 15. AARP encourages individuals to come forward and nominate deserving community members who have made a lasting impact through their volunteer work.
