83 new COVID-19 cases reported in Henrico Schools last week

After two weeks of declining numbers, Henrico County Public Schools reported a slight uptick in the number of school-related COVID-19 cases last week.

There were 83 total COVID-19 cases reported among students and staff last week compared to 73 cases the week prior.

Since Sept. 1, there have been 935 schools-related cases reported by HCPS. There are about 48,000 in-person students and about 7,000 staff members in HCPS, according to the most recent estimates provided by the school district.

There were 46 reported cases in Henrico elementary schools last week. Pemberton Elementary reported the highest number of cases — 10 — and 27 close contacts. Donahoe Elementary’s four cases resulted in 68 close contacts and Ridge Elementary’s three cases resulted in 37 exposures. Overall, elementary schools reported 237 exposures last week. Since Sept. 1, elementary schools have reported 1,768 school-based exposures.

Henrico’s middle schools reported 13 cases this week and 88 close contacts.

Local high schools reported 24 cases last week, with the highest number at Highland Springs High School with eight cases. There were 159 school-based exposures in high schools last week. Since Sept. 1, high schools have had 1,810 close contacts reported.
