6 Henrico students honored during Scholar-Athlete Awards ceremony

Student athletes from four Henrico schools were among the 20 from the Richmond region honored at the annual Times-Dispatch/Sports Backers Scholar-Athlete Awards ceremony June 7.
The event was held virtually online. Top honors and $5,750 scholarships went to Michael Bourne of Cosby High School and Ellie Horner of St. Catherine’s School. The $3,500 runners’ up scholarships went to Elvin Edmonds, IV of Hopewell and Caroline Bowe of Midlothian.
On the girls side, four students from Henrico were honored:
• Landin Bostian of Mills Godwin High School;
• Kerry Nease of Douglas Freeman High School;
• Hanna Pawela of Deep Run High School;
• Jada Walker of Henrico High School.
On the boys side, one Henrico student was honored:
• Carter Morris of Mills Godwin High School.
Each won scholarships of $2,500.
In addition, Omari DeVeaux of Douglas Freeman High School also earned a $2,500 as the recipient of the Raymond Delaware Patterson Memorial Scholarship. DeVeaux will attend Virginia Wesleyan University in the fall.
