Forty-four confirmed cases of COVID-19 involving Henrico County Public Schools have been reported since Aug. 27, according to the school system.

Those cases have resulted in 212 identified close contacts.

The most cases (six) have occurred in people involved with Pocahontas Middle School, resulting in 12 close contacts being identified. Four cases at Henrico High School resulted in 97 contacts potentially being exposed, and at least two of the cases are considered to be an outbreak (meaning there was transmission at the school).

One case at Glen Allen High School led to the identification of 50 close contacts, while two cases in people at Skipwith Elementary School produced 10 close contacts. The Glen Allen High School varsity football team's game scheduled for this Friday against Patrick Henry High School has been postponed because the program is in a COVID-related pause, according to the school.

Vaccinated people who are deemed to be close contacts with someone who tests positive for COVID-19 can continue to attend school if they have no symptoms but should be tested within 3 to 5 days of exposure, according to the school system. Those who subsequently test positive must quarantine for 14 days even if they are asymptomatic.

Those who are unvaccinated close contacts of a confirmed COVID case must quarantine for 14 days.
