Henrico County’s public schools have reported a total of 21 COVID-19 cases since in-person learning began Feb. 22 – 11 at the elementary school level and 10 at the high school level, according to school system data.

The cases have not resulted in any outbreaks between students and staff (defined as two or more connected cases) but have required 247 people to quarantine because of close contact with those who tested positive.

The majority of those quarantining – 153 – had close contact during athletics or extracurricular activities at the high school level with someone who tested positive, according to the school system’s data.

Those cases included:
• 68 people at Highland Springs High School quarantining from contact with two who tested positive;
• 42 people at Godwin High School quarantining after contact with three who tested positive;
• 21 people at Henrico High School quarantining after contact with one who tested positive;
• 19 people at Tucker High School quarantining after contact with one who tested positive;
• 3 people at Glen Allen High School quarantining after contact with one who tested positive.

It was unclear exactly how many of those cases and associated quarantines were related to sports teams and whether any teams would have to postpone or cancel games as a result.

At the elementary level, the cases have most significantly impacted Harvie Elementary School, where 4 positives required 59 people to enter quarantine.

At Springfield Park Elementary, one positive case caused 27 people to enter quarantine. And one case at Echo Lake Elementary resulted in 8 people quarantining.

Two cases at Shady Grove Elementary and single cases at Carver, Seven Pines and Twin Hickory elementaries have not resulted in any associated quarantines.

At the high school level in non-extracurricular cases, Deep Run and Tucker each have reported one case, neither requiring anyone else to quarantine.
