2024 Congressional Art Competition accepting applications from high school students

Table of Contents

The 2024 Congressional Art Competition is now underway and open to all high school students in Henrico County, whether they live in Virginia's First or Fourth Congressional districts. The winning piece from each district will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol, alongside winners from other districts nationally, for one year.

“The commonwealth is home to incredible artistic talent and many bright young students — I encourage all young artists in Virginia’s First District to submit an original piece to this year’s Congressional Art Competition,” First District Representative Rob Wittman said. “I look forward to seeing the creativity of our Virginia students in their submissions.”

Students can submit up to one original piece (drawing, painting, mixed media, collage, graphic, print, or photography) that is original, designed, and executed. The piece must not violate any U.S. copyright laws.

“Each year, this is an exciting opportunity for local students to showcase their creativity and artistic talents," said Fourth District Representative Jennifer McClellan. "I love seeing local Virginian students’ artwork hanging in the U.S. Capitol as I walk to votes on the House floor. I encourage any interested high school student to participate in this year’s competition!”

To submit a piece, students in the First Congressional District can drop off their submissions by May 1 to Wittman's office at 4201 Dominion Boulevard, Suite 110, in Glen Allen.

Those in the Fourth Congressional District should submit their artwork by April 22 at 5 p.m. online at https://mcclellan.house.gov/services/art-competition.
