St. Anthony Maronite Church has canceled this year’s annual Lebanese Food Festival in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, church officials announced Monday.

The 2020 festival had been rescheduled to September from its traditional May weekend in the hope that conditions would improve sufficiently, but officials pulled the plug yesterday.

“We are deeply sorry to disappoint our many thousands of guests as well as our parishioners and the community,” said Chorbishop John D. Faris, church pastor. “We know how much they all look forward to the festival.

“However, nothing is more important to us than ensuring everyone’s safety and well-being. We believe this is the prudent thing to do. The people of St. Anthony’s cannot wait to welcome everyone again next May.”

The festival is scheduled to return next year on its traditional weekend – the weekend after Mother’s Day – May 14-16.
