Two juvenile males are in custody, facing charges related to the carjacking of a ride-share driver in broad daylight June 22 in Henrico’s Far West End.

At about 3:18 p.m. that day, Henrico Police responded to the 12000 block of Gayton Road, near the Beth Shalom Senior Living community, after a ride-share driver reported that the two suspects had stolen the complainant’s vehicle.

One of the two suspects was a customer in the car, and the other entered the car when the ride was completed, displayed a firearm demanding personal items and the vehicle, and then the two suspects took the vehicle and drove off, according to police.

Shortly thereafter, officers located the vehicle near Twin Hickory in Glen Allen and attempted to stop it but the suspects didn’t comply, so officers initiated a pursuit. The vehicle eventually crashed near Holman Ridge Road and Hickory Park Drive, near Mount Vernon Baptist Church just off Nuckols Road near I-295. The two suspects fled on foot into a wooded area, but police apprehended them shortly thereafter. Police blocked off several roads in the area during the incident.

Both suspects face a charge of conspiracy to commit carjacking, and one also faces charges of using a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a juvenile.
