Two people were injured in a fire that occurred in an Eastern Henrico residence Feb. 5.

The blaze broke out shortly before 5:20 a.m. in the 2200 block of Beau Lane in the Central Gardens neighborhood, near Mechanicsville Turnpike.

Henrico firefighters arrived within five minutes and found smoke and fire coming from the front window of the brick rancher-style home. They were met in the front yard by a female resident who had escaped on her own but who said a male occupant was still in a back room.

Firefighters found him unconscious in a bedroom, rescued him and turned him over to Henrico Fire medics, who performed advanced life support procedures on him during transport to VCU Medical Center. The female resident also was transported to VCU for smoke inhalation and minor burns.

The Henrico Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

Fire officials remind residents to have working smoke alarms in their homes and that auxiliary portable heaters should be kept at least three feet from combustible items.
