Two Henrico County Public Schools teachers recently received funding in celebration of National Book month in October from the SONIC Foundation.

Colonial Trail Elementary School fifth-grade teacher Melissa Bennett's project "Boo-ks Please" earned $168, and Dumbarton Elementary School kindergarten teacher Rachel Stansberry's "Berry Good Books" project received $81.

In total, the SONIC Foundation donated $1.25 million to match donations to classroom projects requesting books through DonorsChoose, a website that allows people to donate directly to classroom requests submitted by teachers nationwide. The funding came through SONIC Drive-In's Limeades for Learning initiative.

"Education has always been at the core of our Limeades for Learning program," said Stuart Brown, executive director of the SONIC Foundation. "Making books more readily available is key to fostering lifelong learning."

This initiative has helped the SONIC Foundation fund nearly 5,000 classroom book requests this month, impacting approximately 134,730 students.
