Keep Virginia Beautiful is awarding its annual “30 in 30 Green Grants” one each day in the month of June, and its most recent recipient in Henrico – Keep Henrico Beautiful – will receive a grant award of $500 for its Litter Prevention project. Previously, KVB provided an identical grant to Henrico-based Tech 4 Troops.

Government, non-profit, civic and service organizations in Virginia were invited to apply for grants for $500 to $1,000 describing how they plan to tackle an environmental concern in their community regarding Litter Prevention, Recycling, Cigarette Litter Prevention, or Community Beautification.

Since 2011, Keep Virginia Beautiful has provided $230,000 for 290 different environmental projects and programs statewide, through partner Altria, as well as Keep America Beautiful and Coca-Cola.

The Keep Henrico Beautiful Committee was organized in 1980 for the purpose of improving the environmental quality of Henrico County through the development of a comprehensive educational program to reduce litter and littering. KHB has connected with the Henrico County Sheriff's Office’s ORBIT Program (Opiate Recovery Based on Intensive Tracking) to create a litter crew – a part-time deputy overseeing a four- to five-person crew that picks up litter three or four times per week on state-maintained roads. KHB will use grant funds to replenish the crew’s supplies and anti-litter metal signs.

Tech 4 Troops supports veterans returning to the workforce by collecting used technology that would usually end up in landfills and refurbishing laptops and other devices. It then provides the reloaded technology, along with training, to veterans in need for free. T4T’s recycling program reduces electronic waste and the toxic substances found within them by collecting donated electronics, processing them with a team of skilled technicians, and determining if it will be refurbished or properly recycled.
