2 arrested, charged with murder following shooting at Whole Foods in Short Pump

Henrico Police officials announced that two people from Crewe, Virginia have been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and other charges in connection with a shooting outside the Whole Foods store in Short Pump Sept. 2.

Deontae Marquel Winston, 33, and Katoya Brown, 35, were arrested Sept. 5 and each charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Second-degree murder charges were added late Wednesday after the victim, 30-year-old Julian Leshon McClenny of Drewryville, Virginia, died.

The shooting happened just before 8:50 p.m. in the 11100 block of West Broad Street. Officers who arrived found McClenny suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital but died Sept. 5

People nearby had reported hearing an argument prior to the shots.

During their investigation, several tips from community members led detectives to develop Winston and Brown as persons of interest.
