19-year-old charged in hit-and-run that killed 43-year-old Henrico woman

Henrico Police have arrested and charged a 19-year-old with felony hit and run in connection with a crash that killed a 43-year-old Henrico woman Saturday night in the West End Manor neighborhood.

Meleana Klenota is charged in the incident, in which Shannon O’Leary was struck and killed in the 9300 block of Meadowgreen Road, in the front yard of a residence, according to police. O’Leary’s husband, Andy Meyers, wrote on Facebook that she was taking the family’s dog for a walk when she was struck. Witnesses reported that she was pinned against another car after being hit. The incident occurred only about two-tenths of a mile from O'Leary's home. She died at the scene.

When police responded, the vehicle was not at the scene. Police investigated and located Klenota the following day, and they continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

“I loved my wife with all my heart, and now there is only emptiness where that love once stood,” Meyers wrote on Facebook. “She loved not only me and our children, but so many we consider neighbors and friends.”
