A developer's proposed construction of a subdivision on Hillard Road in Lakeside, near where it meets Cub Road and next to the Belmont Golf Course, earned the endorsement of the Henrico Planning Commission Jan. 9.

The development, proposed by The Kittrell Company, would contain as many as 18 two-story single-family homes in total, including one house already on the property.

The Henrico Planning Department’s only significant concern about the plans was ensuring preservation of open space located on a 100-year floodplain. During a Henrico Planning Commission meeting Jan. 17, two residents raised concerns about the loss of open space, loss of the view and traffic impacts, particularly with the addition of a bike lane on Hillard.

One resident suggested that a smaller development would better serve the feel of the Lakeside area.

The commission also recommended approval of a proposed Dunkin' Donuts on the south side of Quioccasin Road near its intersection with Pemberton Road.

The Henrico Board of Supervisors, which holds ultimate decision-making authority, next will consider both cases.
