17-year-old driver charged after allegedly striking, killing pedestrian

Henrico Police responded to the intersection of Staples Mill Road and Bremner Boulevard Monday after receiving reports of a vehicle-pedestrian crash there and found the adult male victim suffering from life-threatening injuries. The victim, 27-year-old Andre Antonio Messado of New Jersey, was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

The driver of the Toyota RAV4, a 17-year-old male, allegedly struck the pedestrian while driving westbound on Staples Mill Road between Bremner Boulevard and Sprenkle Lane. After the collision, the driver drove away from the scene, but police located him about two miles away shortly thereafter, where they arrested and charged him with DUI, felony hit and run, involuntary manslaughter, possessing a fake ID, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and operating a vehicle without a license. Alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the crash, according to police. The case remains under investigation.
