16 NOVA of Virginia Aquatics swimmers commit to colleges

Sixteen swimmers from NOVA of Virginia Aquatics in Henrico recently signed collegiate letters of intent to continue their swimming careers.

They are:

• Caroline Baber, The Collegiate School – Washington & Lee University;
• Carter Bristow , Freeman High School – University of Virginia;
• Ian Densley, Freeman High School – Roanoke College;
• Grace Edwards, Freeman High School – Boston College;
• Madeleine (Maddie) Hadd, Godwin High School – Georgia Institute of Technology;
• Ana Kuzemka, Deep Run High School – George Mason University;
• Sarah Malloy, Godwin High School – Texas Christian University;
• Lauren Meeker, Atlee High School – Virginia Tech;
• Ashley Meyer, Glen Allen High School – University of Richmond;
• Rebecca Rogers, Godwin High School – College of William and Mary;
• Kaleigh Seitz, Deep Run High School – Oklahoma Christian University;
• Sophie Svoboda, Trinity Episcopal School – United States Air Force Academy;
• Patrick Townsend, Hanover High School – University of Tennessee;
• Maria Vinson, Freeman High School – Roanoke College;
• Matthew Whelan, JR Tucker High School – Duke University;
• Grace (Gracie) Wielar, St. Catherine's School – Villanova University;

NOVA finished both the 2016/17 short-course season and the 2017 long-course season ranked fourth in the nation by USA Swimming for overall club performance for swimming competition. It is the only Virginia Swimming club to have received the Gold Medal Club Award and is just one of 12 clubs nationwide that have attained the highest levels of recognition for both club performance and achievement and club management from USA Swimming.

NOVA alum Townley Haas won a gold medal in the Men’s 4 x 200-meter Freestyle Relay in the 2016 Summer Olympics and finished fifth in the 200-meter Freestyle.

Guided by head coach Geoff Brown, the National Club Swimming Association’s 2016 Coach of the Year and USA Swimming’s 2012 Developmental Coach of the Year, NOVA’s coaching staff has led the team to wins at three NCSA Junior National Swimming Championships, every Virginia Swimming Short Course age group championship since 2001, and every Virginia Swimming Senior Long Course Championship since 2006.
