Henrico County Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA, welcomed 13 new volunteers Feb. 26.

They will advocate for children who are before the court due to allegations of abuse or neglect. Rondelle D. Herman, chief judge of the Henrico Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, administered the CASA Volunteer Oath of Appointment during a ceremony. It was the culmination of 38 hours of training and courtroom observation during the previous month.

Herman explained that CASA’s dedication results in unbiased, factual, and thorough reports that provide information about the circumstances of children and their families, which is vital to helping the court make decisions in the best interests of the children. She underscored that the limited facts of cases commonly do not add up until she gains critical information through the CASA reports.

Last year, 113 volunteers advocated for 383 children in the Henrico Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Henrico CASA’s next training begins April 18.
